Denmans Garden was created by the brilliant but little-known plantswoman, Joyce Robinson, and the internationally renowned landscape designer John Brookes MBE between 1946-2018. A showcase of garden design excellence, Denmans is 4 acres and features a Walled Garden, 50 year-old gravel gardens, two dry riverbeds, a contemporary design layout, ponds, and a conservatory. A tranquil, intimate garden with strong year-round interest, Denmans includes a rich palette of native plants mixed with unusual and exotic plants. Visitors will find inspiration and design ideas for gardeners of all skill levels and gardens sizes.
A limited number of tailored guided tours with Gwendolyn van Paasschen, owner of Denmans and Chairman of the John Brookes-Denmans Foundation are available for small groups. Alternatively an illustrated talk by Gwendolyn prior to a garden visit is possible for larger groups.
Plant Centre - In the tradition of Joyce Robinson and John Brookes MBE, the Denmans Plant Centre offers a huge array of plants that are suitable for the climate and soil in West Sussex and regions with similar growing conditions. Many of the plants are propagated on site in the newly renovated greenhouse, and the Denmans team are available to offer guidance and advice.
Gift Shop – Offering a thoughtfully curated selection with many locally made products, the shop offers an eclectic range from scarves, hats, and beautiful jewelry, to cards, bird feeders, gardening gadgets, beautiful vases and pots, vintage garden ornaments, and garden gadgets.
Venue Spaces for hire - The Botanical Room is a beautiful space for private lunches, teas, wakes, meetings, and other events. In cold weather seating is indoors and in warm weather people can enjoy sitting outside on the shingle terrace.
