Stefano Cuomo's favourite places in Kent...
15 juli 2019
After his ancestor Fredrick Neame Snr came to Macknade in 1847 to farm the rich Kentish soil, Stefano Cuomo is now the sixth generation to lead the family business in Faversham. Although the family no longer farm land, Macknade now stands as one of the UK's leading independent food and drink businesses. Filled with the very best butchery, fruit, delicatessen and grocery products, this premier food hall now holds award-winning status for their fresh produce,
Here Stefano talks us through his favourite places to visit in the beautiful county of Kent…
Griggs of Hythe
No trip to Kent is complete without a lung full of fresh sea air and the fish counter at Griggs is as close as you can get to the sea without getting wet! A simple treat is to sit on the benches, enjoying the incredible vista of the English Channel, munching on a bacon & scallop buttie straight from the kitchen.
Squerryes Vineyard and Winery
Squerryes is all about provenance and Henry & his team have crafted some of the best wines in Kent, with the perfect location to enjoy it in. If wine is not your thing, then Westerham Brewery is right next door and you can enjoy a pint and a pizza with views over the vines! Both are within a short drive of West Kent’s historic houses and estates.
Winterdale Cheesemakers
Only five minutes from the motorway and you are transported to another world, immersed in the farming heritage of Kent… a hidden corner of the Kentish North Downs that is just waiting to be discovered. Robin Betts’ cheese is one of the superstars of the British Cheese scene and an opportunity to taste it, whilst surrounded by the land that shapes it, is not to be missed!
Belmont House & Gardens
Weave your way through the valleys surrounding Faversham and you will arrive at Belmont House. Drop a coin or two into the trust box and you can wander the gardens to your hearts content. All manner of fantastic events are organised in the grounds, so don’t miss out by checking in advance for details of what is going on.
Reads Restaurant with Rooms
A Great British dining experience, set in what was famed as Kent’s most beautiful farmhouse! Rona and David have been producing inspirational dishes, delivered with the greatest of care and style, for over 40 years. Stay the night after supper and follow breakfast with a stroll around the tranquil kitchen garden & lawns before heading next door for a spot of shopping with us… heaven!
